Million
Father March
At
the beginning of the school year, many Broward County Public Schools
(BCPS) actively participated in this year’s Million Father March
- “I’m Taking My Children to the First Day of School.”
The national campaign, spearheaded by the Million Father March organization,
was an effort to encourage fathers to take their children to school
on the first day of classes. The event was part of an overall effort
to solicit more parents to become actively involved in the educational
process with their children.
In an effort to keep the momentum of a great opening
day turnout going, a special dinner for dads and men who care for and
about children is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at Dillard
Elementary School, 2330 NW 12 Ct. in Fort Lauderdale.
Participating schools in the Dillard Innovation Zone
include Dillard, Lauderdale Manors, Thurgood Marshall, Westwood Heights,
Rock Island, Broward Estates, Sun-land Park, Martin Luther King elementary
schools, Arthur Ashe, Parkway, William Dandy middle schools, and Dillard
High School. Fathers and men who are associated with students from these
schools are invited to attend the Million Fathers March dinner celebration.
Seating is limited, and participants are required to register in advance
at one of the participating schools.
In Broward, this community-wide effort has garnered
the support and involvement of a number of organizations, including
the Westside Gazette, Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, North
Broward Hospital District, Friends of Children, Inc., and 100 Black
Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale.
